I have a BlackBerry Storm, the virtual keyboard pops up as expected but it is missing the number '1'.

Unfortunantly, this is a known bug of older BlackBerry Storm, anyway you can fix it by updating your firmware with the latest one or by using Auto Loan Calculator PRO in landscape mode.
